Texture Study - Kingpin with DOTA 2 Style Textures

This texture work was created for a provided model for my texturing module at Staffordshire university. The aim of this was to create textures in the chosen style of DOTA 2. The pipeline I used for this texture work was creating design sheets for different texturing ideas, alongside mood boards for reference in photoshop. Once this was done, I unwrapped the model in 3DS Max before starting in Substance Painter. I started with blocking out the colours as a foundation before adding imperfections such as dirt and scratches on the armor. Alongside painting smaller details such as stitches on the UV map, I also used particle brushes. One of these was the rain brush with a low displacement value to give acidity to the character, emphasized by the colour scheme. Another brush was the fracture particles brush to produce the cracks on the wings with ink brushes used on the shoulder plates with a high metallic value. Smaller decals were created in photoshop and added for smaller details. Upon receiving feedback, I added in handpainted AO, alongside light and shadow generators to bake the lighting into the texture themselves. After this was rendered in Iray, I took to rendering unreal with a turntable video, followed by marmoset and its viewer. A reflection document was created shortly after.
Overall this DOTA 2 style went very well and gave me great experiences in Painter alongside Unreal for future portfolio renders.
